Sometimes you have to fail first to find success
During a team building #IAmRemarkable workshop, we were asked to write down what makes us remarkable. I wrote, “I am remarkable because of my tenacity. After failing the first time, I went back to school and earned my MBA.”
My graduation from The University of Oklahoma Price College of Business was a moment set in motion 7 years prior when I was first accepted into the professional MBA program. The first time around, I was just starting my first “real job” and had a very hard time keeping up. After nearly failing accounting, I withdrew and focused on building my career.
On May 11th, 2019 I walked across that stage and my own father handed me my diploma. I gave our amazing dean a big hug and celebrated the hard work with my friends and colleges.
It was a truly remarkable day.
Digital Technologies Course Work
I re-started my MBA after spending 5 years at a tech startup, so I decided to dedicate my focus to digital technologies. This gave me the opportunity to learn more about database management, performing data analysis in R, and building projects in Python.
Python & R Project - Kiva Micro Loans Analysis
In my Programming II course, our final project asked us to use publicly available data to create a data-backed story. I chose to look at Kiva micro-financing to figure out what would be the best loan to invest in based on repayment, impact, and, of course, the highest probability of my generosity going viral on Twitter.
Social Analytics Final Project
Social Media Programming Analytics was a class I instantly love. Having started my career at a social media marketing and analytics platform, I already had an understanding of what the real-world impact these skills could lead to. We learned how to use R and NodeXL to scrape social website, like Twitter, and generate valuable insights from that data. For my final project, I focused on a real-world business case that I could use to help inform my work at Tailwind. I created a map of the most influential accounts and topics around ecommerce.
